KTM 990 Adventure R versus Google Navigation

It’s snowing, except looking at the dash display the temperature is +10C. A hard rain, or hail, or a hallucination? An effect of the “Eyes of God” Twisted Throttle Denali D2s white light, hitting the downpour’s drops? Fatigued, my mind scrambles for why Highway 1 heading into Hope, BC has turned white. I’m on the final leg of a 1225km ride from Eureka, CA to Sunshine Valley, just outside Vancouver, BC pitting KTM’s 990 Adventure R against a Google Navigation estimate. It’s a total of 1225 kms, or 760 miles, in one go. The hail covered road, well, that’s not to plan. Continued here at onewheeldrive.net

2011 NEW Yamaha Star Stryker 1300 launch USA official video
This bike looks pretty cool. Not the biggest diplacement around but definitely enough. Nicely raked with a low seat
height and a belt drive. It should be a contender in a pretty stacked line up this year.

Beginning in May, 2011, Norton Motorcycles will again be on-sale in America. Similar in both style and mechanical
arrangement to the much-loved Commando of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, three versions of the new bikes will be
offered — the basic Norton Commando 961 Sport, the up-styled 961 Cafe Racer and the high-spec 961 SE. All three
are powered by a sophisticated 961cc parallel-twin and equipped with modern running gear. In the case of the SE
that even means USD Ohlins and radial Brembos. Classic looks, classic experience and modern performance? Yes, please.

2011 Kawasaki Vaquero
Wow this bike is bad ass...
The dictionary defines vaquero as a Spanish-origin word meaning "cowboy" or "herdsman." Well, if that cowboy happened
to be independent, adventurous, undeniably-cool and sported handmade boots and a custom hat, he'd probably ride a

DUCATI ARE to launch a 1400cc muscle-bound street bruiser to challenge Harley-Davidson - that's the word on the street
from Italy this morning.
Sources say the bike, which has been dubbed the Vyper, is already in running form and has started preliminary tests at the
Bologna factory. They also say Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali has revealed the company is looking to branch out into a
wider market.
It's reported the Vyper will feature a stroked version of the company's Testastretta engine, housed it Ducati's signature
steel trellis frame. A 240-section rear tyre mounted in a beefy, hollow-section swingarm, is believed to also feature on the
new machine.
Looks good to us!

So, what do you think of the new traffic laws? In effect as of yesterday. Think about it before you stop off for a beer before you head home from the office...or before you twist your wrist.
Impairment:
- Immediate roadside suspension for 0.05 - 0.08 blood alcohol (less than one drink for many people)
- 1st offense, lose your license for 3 days - may also lose your car for 3 days, fines of $450 + towing & storage
- 2nd offense, car and license gone for a week, $550 in fines + towing & storage
- 3rd offense, car & license gone for 30 days, $650 in fines, towing, storage, you have to take a Responsible driver's program to get your license back, and you get a handy-dandy ignition interlock device for a year (blow under 0.05 to drive)
- Blow over 0.08 (or refuse to blow) - lose your license for 3 months, and the vehicle you were driving for a month (hope it isn't Dad's car)
- Fines to over $4000, you have to take a Responsible driver's program to get your license back, and you get a handy-dandy ignition interlock device for a year (blow under 0.05 to drive)
- May be charged under the Criminal Code
Excessive speeding (more than 40kmh over):
- Immediate 7 day impoundment of your vehicle (first offense, 30 days second, 60 days third)
- A $350 - $500 ticket
- A $320 per year driver risk premium on your ICBC policy for 3 years
- About $350 to get your vehicle back (towing and storage fees)
First offense costs nearly two grand. Think it'll slow 'em down?

Anyone planning on going? The wife and I always use this as an excuse for a weekend getaway. The show has been significantly smaller the last two years due to the economy but on the plus side it’s been MUCH less crowded and thus more enjoyable walking around. |

Hello. I am new to this forum. I am 63 years old and ride a 1600 Kawasaki Vulcan. I live in Ferndale, Washington. Has anyone rode the entire length of BC? I want to take the ferry up to Skagway, AK and ride my bike south to the US border and home. I am looking for information about rodes, gas, camping, etc.
Oh, my name is John

Tip of the WEEK by Teach
It's been a while since I wrote in Tip of the Week. So here's a good one, that I see problems with constantly.
FIT THE BIKE TO YOUR BODY!!
Handlebars, by and large, are adjustable. (and swappable!) Electrical control switch positions, are adjustable. Foot control positions, hand control positions (and reach!) can be adjusted on almost every bike out there. And yet I see riders all the time that can barely reach their front brake lever (for example) because the engagement point is too far from the handlebars. Same for the clutch lever.
Another common one is having the rear brake pedal set too high so that when the rider tries to use the rear brake in an emergency, they overbrake and lock up (becasue they can't properly control the brake application)
I see riders that can't turn the handlbars more than a little to the left and right - because the reach to the bars is too far for them! Or when they DO steer sharply, their body is pulled way off balance by reaching out for the handlebars. Consider swapping bars, or seating position, or something. The bike might just plain be too big for you.
Another simpole one is having the mirrors adjusted improperly. I see riders dipping their head and moving their body out of the riding postion to see in their mirrors. Why? In your mirrors, you should see mostly road, and only a thin line of horizon - from your natural riding position. Adjust them!
I see this stuff really limiting a rider's ability to control their bike properly all the time. Often, I can fix the minor things with 2 minutes and some simple tools...so get your bikle set up properly!

Hmm, I don’t know. The seating position feels kind of bunny to me. Caption provided by Flash.
