Hi Redback, are gravel roads an option for you?

The MT-01 doesn't like them much.

Better bring lots of cash too!  It does look like an awesome machine.  I look forward to reading all the reviews and tests.

If I had a million dollars....

Very true but at least I would have tangible assets.  There are worse habits to have than mine.
I try to keep it under a certain amount of control but it’s not easy.

I was at the Honda Centre yesterday and they have the nerve to have a GB500 for sale.

Luckily it’s a little pricey so my wallet made it out of there unscathed.

Very sweet.  I miss wire spoke wheels. (Not for cleaning, mind you)  I think that is my biggest attraction to the Ducati Sportclassic bikes.  Wire wheels.

Yeah, nothing looks better on cruisers and classic bikes than spoked wheels IMO.  Keeping them clean is not much fun though.  The spokes are bad enough but trying to get at the hubs really sucks.

Here's my 2004 Aero with spokes. So far haven't had any problems with keeping them clean.

Redback, these are a suggestion, start in Vernon, Hwy 6 to Nakusp, (gravel option) North to Trout Lake, South around the lake and follow the Gerrard Riverdown to Meadow Creek, then to Kaslo, (Kaslo hotel has a nice veranda and great meals), south to Balfour over the Ferry to Kootenay Bay, south to Creston, West to Salmo, North to Nelson, North back to Balfour then Kaslo, West to New Denver, South on Hwy 6 to Playmore Junction, then go west to Castlegar and continue on Hwy 3 back to Vcr. Non gravel option go south from Nakusp to New Denver then East to Kaslo, continue to Balfour and the rest is the same route.  Mapquest should break it up for times and distance for planning.

I'm planning a few trips this summer. This one will probably be the most ambitious. It's not set in stone or anything...I mainly want to make it up to jasper and then down to banff and then play around in the kootneys for a while so I figured I should also head down and see yellowstone to :) If I run out of time I will probably just keep it in canada, but we'll see. I don't like to have to much of a plan.

I did these two last summer and really enjoyed them.

These look like great rides. I like the kootenays. Northern wash has great roads too eh. We are truely spoiled here.

Hey Yamahawg...ya, the Kootenays are awesome! Definitely want to spent time cruising there this summer...I really liked route 20 in washington back through the cascades last year to. Nothing compared to that monster trip you took last year though ;).

*bump*

Looks like that trip to the island is a go. The first trip out I can take my time (kinda), so here is the route:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Three+Hills,+AB&daddr=David+Thompson+Hwy%2FHWY+11+to:HWY+93+to:HWY-1%2FHWY+97+to:HWY+99+to:50.415519,-122.302551+to:Saanichton,+BC&hl=en&geocode=FVX9FAMdRbU_-SndNRHRS4BzUzF7tBzct5M_Ww%3BFeL-IAMdTskX-Q%3BFd6IBAMdnPsU-Q%3BFUY8BwMduk3F-A%3BFTaZBQMdILO7-A%3B%3BFeF-5QId6MSk-Ckf-oDw1G6PVDHhGwdQ-ZIuKA&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=5&sz=9&via=1,2,3,4,5&sll=50.508187,-120.907288&sspn=1.404394,3.56781&ie=UTF8&ll=50.819818,-119.289551&spn=11.169457,28.54248&t=h&z=6

Might go up to Jasper "on the way"...rode there once on the Vulcan and loved it. I plan on stealth camping where I can. The second trip out will be following a moving truck, so it'll hafta be more direct. I know...woe is me, right?
